Enzyme Wash
The garment is enzyme-washed to soften the fabric, remove surface fibres and prepare it for further finishing.
Acid Wash
A controlled acid-wash treatment is applied to break down the surface colour and create an irregular, worn-in fade with natural tonal variation.
Blasting / Localised Fading
Selected areas are individually faded to build stronger highlights, depth and a naturally aged appearance across the garment.
Neutralisation & Final Finish
The garment is thoroughly neutralised and washed to stop the fading process, followed by softening, drying and final quality inspection.
FAQs
How are these cotton canvas pants different from denim?
Canvas is lighter and flatter than denim, with a matte finish instead of denim's diagonal twill texture. It breathes better, holds its structured shape rather than molding to the body over time like denim does, and is more abrasion-resistant per weight. Because canvas doesn't naturally develop the same worn-in creases and fades that denim does through everyday wear, TrouZZers go through a multi-step wash process to build that aged, lived-in character in before they reach you.
Why do TrouZZers look faded and worn-in already?
Every pair goes through a 4-step wash process. First, an enzyme wash softens the fabric and removes surface fibres to prep it for finishing. Next, a controlled acid wash breaks down the surface colour to create an irregular, natural-looking fade. Then, select areas are individually faded (blasting) to build highlights, depth and an aged appearance across the garment. Finally, the pair is neutralised and washed to lock in the fade, followed by softening, drying and a quality check.
Will the fade continue to change after I wash them at home?
No. The final neutralisation step in our wash process stops the fading permanently, so the tonal variation you see is locked in and won't keep breaking down with regular home washing.
Is the fading and colour variation intentional?
Yes. The irregular fade, tonal variation and localised highlights are part of the designed finish, not a defect - every pair will look slightly different because of how the wash process interacts with the fabric.
How do I wash and care for TrouZZers?
Wash inside out, machine wash cold, do not tumble dry, low iron, drip dry.
